CODE OF CONDUCT
Fire & Story and Paper Whale Arts are committed to creating an enjoyable, welcoming, and safe experience for everyone attending the Festival. By purchasing, accepting, or using a Festival ticket, you agree to comply with this Code of Conduct, the Ticket Purchase Terms & Conditions, and all reasonable instructions from Festival staff, security personnel, emergency responders, and other authorized personnel.
This Code of Conduct applies throughout the Fire & Story Festival, including the waterfront, main Festival grounds, performance areas, activity areas, and other event locations.
Fire & Story reserves the right to update this Code of Conduct as reasonably necessary for safety, security, legal, or operational reasons.
1. BE A GOOD STEWARD
Fire & Story is committed to responsible environmental practices and asks all attendees to help us Leave No Trace.
Please:

Reduce and reuse materials whenever possible.

Dispose of waste in the appropriate recycling, compost, landfill receptacles, or at the wash station containers.

Respect the Festival grounds, waterfront, facilities, installations, and surrounding environment.

Use designated water-filling stations where available.
-
Bring a reusable non-glass water bottle whenever possible.
2. WHAT YOU MAY BRING
The following items are permitted, subject to reasonable security screening and any applicable safety restrictions:

One bag per person;
-
Blankets
-
Plastic or other non-glass water bottles;
-
Reasonably sized strollers;
-
Handheld umbrellas during rain, provided they do not obstruct the view or experience of other attendees; and
-
Low-seat chairs under 24 inches in height.
All permitted items remain subject to the prohibited-items and security provisions below.
3. FESTIVAL PROGRAMMING
Fire & Story is a multi-day festival with multiple stages, performances, activities, artists, installations, and other experiences.
Artists, performers, schedules, stages, activities, locations, operating hours, and other programming are subject to change without notice. No particular artist, performance, activity, or Festival feature is guaranteed.
Changes to programming do not entitle a ticket holder to a refund or exchange, except as otherwise required by applicable law or expressly provided by Fire & Story.
4. WEATHER AND OUTDOOR CONDITIONS
Fire & Story is an outdoor, rain-or-shine event.
Weather and environmental conditions may affect Festival operations, programming, access, and available activities. If Fire & Story determines that weather or other conditions create a safety concern, programming may be delayed, interrupted, modified, relocated, or cancelled, and access to portions of the Festival may be restricted.
If an emergency or severe weather event occurs, please follow all instructions and announcements from Festival staff, security personnel, emergency responders, and other authorized personnel.
5. HEALTH AND PERSONAL SAFETY
Please do not attend the Festival if you are sick or experiencing symptoms that could reasonably put other attendees, staff, artists, or vendors at risk.
Hand-sanitizing stations and other health and safety resources may be available throughout the Festival.
Fire & Story will have security, medical, fire, production, and other personnel available during the Festival. A General Information area and medical assistance area may also be available.
Please promptly report safety concerns or emergencies to Festival staff or security personnel and follow all emergency instructions.
6. TICKETS, WRISTBANDS AND RE-ENTRY
Attendees are responsible for having their valid digital ticket, wristband, or other required admission credential available for inspection.
Wristbands or other credentials may be required for re-entry to the waterfront Festival grounds or access to particular areas.
Do not remove, transfer, alter, duplicate, or tamper with a wristband or other admission credential.
If allowed by the event organizer, tickets transferred to another person remain subject to this Code of Conduct and all applicable Festival terms. Each person attending the Festival must complete any required attendee registration and separately accept any required liability waiver before admission or participation.
7. SECURITY SCREENING
For the safety and security of attendees, staff, artists, vendors, and the Festival community, attendees and their belongings may be subject to reasonable security screening upon entry or while on Festival premises.
Screening may include inspection of bags and other belongings and, where appropriate, a reasonable physical screening by trained security personnel.
By presenting a ticket for admission, you consent to required security screening. If you decline required screening, you may be denied admission without a refund.
Security personnel may be of different genders. Attendees may request a particular available searcher where reasonably practicable.
If you have questions or concerns about the security screening process, please speak with a member of the security team.
8. PROHIBITED ITEMS
For safety and security reasons, the following items are prohibited unless expressly authorized in advance by Fire & Story:

Outside food or beverages (event organizer may revise this prohibition and will send a communication to ticket holders prior to the event);

Alcoholic beverages;
-
Bota bags;
-
Balloons, balls, or inflatables;
-
Frisbees;
-
Drones or other unmanned aircraft;
-
Laser pointers;
-
Flagpoles, banner poles, or similar extended poles;
-
E-cigarettes and vaporizers, except as otherwise expressly permitted;
-
Illegal drugs or controlled substances, including drug paraphernalia;
-
Cannabis, except as permitted under applicable law and expressly addressed in the Cannabis Policy below;
-
Weapons of any kind, and any item that could reasonably be used as a weapon or projectile;
-
Gang-affiliated clothing or items;
-
Chains or studded bracelets;
-
Glass bottles or other glass containers;
-
Large coolers or ice chests;
-
Fireworks, flares, or other pyrotechnics;
-
Animals other than service animals, as permitted by applicable law;
-
Promotional or commercial materials not pre-approved by Fire & Story or Paper Whale;
-
Spray cans, corrosive substances, flammable substances, dyes, or containers holding substances that are hazardous or highly flammable;
-
Mechanically operated instruments that produce excessive noise, including megaphones and air- or gas-powered horns;
-
Professional photography equipment or cameras with detachable lenses, unless expressly authorized;
-
Sound or video recording equipment, unless expressly authorized;
-
Computers, tablets, iPads, or other devices used for unauthorized transmission or dissemination of sound, images, descriptions, or other Festival content;
-
Pop-up tents; and
-
Any other item that Fire & Story reasonably determines presents a safety, security, operational, or disruption concern.
This list is not necessarily exhaustive. Fire & Story reserves the right to prohibit or restrict additional items when reasonably necessary for safety, security, or Festival operations.
Prohibited items may be refused entry, confiscated, or otherwise handled in accordance with applicable law and Festival security procedures.
9. SMOKING, VAPING AND CANNABIS
Fire & Story venues are non-smoking facilities, except for any areas expressly designated by Fire & Story.
Smoking and vaping are prohibited within the Festival grounds and event perimeter unless Fire & Story expressly designates otherwise. This prohibition includes cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and cannabis.
Cannabis
Guests may not bring recreational cannabis into the Festival.
Cannabis may not be smoked, vaped, consumed, or otherwise used within the Festival grounds except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law and by Fire & Story in a specifically designated area.
Nothing in this Code of Conduct is intended to restrict lawful possession or use of medication or to limit any rights required to be provided under applicable disability or other law.
10. ALCOHOL
Alcohol may be possessed, served, or consumed only in areas designated by Fire & Story and only by persons legally permitted to possess and consume alcohol.
Outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Guests may be required to present valid government-issued identification to Festival staff, security personnel, or alcohol-service personnel at any time.
A guest who cannot establish that they are legally permitted to possess or consume alcohol may be denied alcohol service and may be subject to removal from the Festival where appropriate.
Excessive consumption of alcohol, intoxication, impairment, or alcohol-related conduct that creates a safety or disruption concern is prohibited.
11. EXPECTED CONDUCT
Fire & Story is intended to be a welcoming and inclusive Festival. Attendees are expected to treat other guests, artists, staff, volunteers, vendors, and the surrounding community with respect.
The following conduct is prohibited and may result in denial of admission or removal from the Festival:

Fighting or physical violence;

Threatening, intimidating, or taunting conduct;
-
Harassment of any kind;
-
Abusive, discriminatory, or threatening language or conduct;
-
Dangerous, unlawful, or intentionally disruptive behavior;
-
Excessive intoxication or impairment;
-
Indecent exposure or public undressing;
-
Obscene, offensive, or indecent conduct or attire;
-
Interfering with security or emergency procedures;
-
Entering performance areas, stages, restricted areas, or other areas not open to attendees;
-
Throwing objects onto a stage, performance area, or other restricted area;
-
Interfering with a performance, activity, game, or other Festival program;
-
Flying a drone or other unauthorized unmanned aircraft;
-
Selling tickets, merchandise, or other goods on Festival property without authorization;
-
Distributing promotional materials, literature, or other materials without prior approval from Fire & Story or Paper Whale;
-
Bringing prohibited items into the Festival;
-
Tampering with Festival property, equipment, installations, signage, barriers, or safety equipment; and
-
Any other conduct that, in Fire & Story's reasonable judgment, is unsafe, disruptive, unlawful, abusive, threatening, or inconsistent with the safe and orderly operation of the Festival.
12. FIRE AND SPECIAL ACTIVITY AREAS
Fire & Story may include fire pits, fire performances, installations, artistic performances, and other activities involving flame, heat, smoke, sparks, equipment, or other hazards.
Attendees must remain outside designated barriers and follow all posted instructions and directions from Festival personnel.
Do not touch, enter, climb on, move, interfere with, or otherwise approach restricted fire or performance areas.
Certain Festival activities may require a separate ticket, registration, age restriction, liability waiver, or other agreement before participation.
13. SERVICE ANIMALS AND ANIMALS
Animals are generally not permitted at the Festival except as required or permitted by applicable law, including properly trained service animals.
Service animals must remain under the control of their handler at all times and may be excluded where their presence would create a legitimate safety concern or otherwise be permitted by applicable law.
Fire & Story will not require documentation as a condition of admission where such documentation is prohibited by applicable law.
14. PERSONAL PROPERTY AND BICYCLE STORAGE
Attendees are responsible for their personal belongings.
Fire & Story is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or unattended property.
Fire & Story may provide bicycle storage as a convenience to attendees. Bicycles and other personal property placed in or near bicycle storage remain at the owner's risk, and Fire & Story does not guarantee the security of stored property.
Please report lost property to the General Information area or other location designated by Festival staff.
15. PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND RECORDING
Fire & Story and its authorized representatives may photograph, film, record, or otherwise capture images, likenesses, voices, and other recordings of attendees during the Festival.
By entering the Festival, attendees acknowledge and consent to incidental photography and recording and to the use of such recordings as described in the Ticket Purchase Terms & Conditions.
Professional photography, audio recording, video recording, and other recording equipment may be prohibited unless expressly authorized by Fire & Story.
Attendees may not engage in unauthorized commercial recording, live-streaming, broadcasting, or other dissemination of Festival performances or activities.
16. LEAVE THE FESTIVAL WHEN DIRECTED
Fire & Story reserves the right to deny admission to or remove from the Festival any person who violates this Code of Conduct, the Ticket Purchase Terms & Conditions, applicable law, or reasonable instructions from Festival personnel.
A person may also be removed when reasonably necessary to protect the safety or security of that person or others or to maintain the orderly operation of the Festival.
No refund will be provided to a person who is denied admission or removed because of a violation of this Code of Conduct or other Festival rules.
Depending on the circumstances, violations may also be referred to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities.
17. EMERGENCIES AND EVACUATION
In an emergency, severe weather event, fire, security incident, or other situation affecting public safety, Fire & Story may suspend programming, restrict access, evacuate or relocate attendees, or take other reasonable measures.
Please remain calm, follow posted instructions, and promptly comply with directions from Festival staff, security personnel, firefighters, medical personnel, law enforcement, and other emergency responders.
18. ACKNOWLEDGMENT
BY PURCHASING, ACCEPTING, OR USING A FIRE & STORY TICKET, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND AGREE TO COMPLY WITH THIS CODE OF CONDUCT.
This Code of Conduct is incorporated by reference into the Fire & Story Ticket Purchase Terms & Conditions.
This Code of Conduct does not constitute a liability waiver or release. Where a separate liability waiver is required, it must be separately accepted by the individual attendee before admission or participation as applicable.
